Exercise 1

Zeitgeist - The belief and perception that people had during a certain time period. In design I found that the Victorian era people had a total different perception than the people today. For example the Victorian era typography had thin to thick contrasting lines because the people in that era preferred that look and feel.
Utopia – A non-existent place of social or political superior standards. In design it would relate to anything from the brilliant and fast technology to design to just a peaceful oasis of a studio where one can immerse themselves in their own personal Utopia.

Findings
I found that with zeitgeist relating to design, the Victorian era had a significant relation to design in that the typography of the Victorian era was to the people of the times mindset and likes. They also had specific likings to furniture decoration, different to ours today. With utopia relating to Graphic Design, I found that the modernist movement was the ideal movement for Graphic designers as the progression towards technology is the ultimate in making design convenient. I went about finding the relevant information by discovering how it relates to design and then searching the movements. The Victorian web website interested me as it had a lot of information regarding the Victorian style. It helps to see what the designers of the time liked and disliked.
